Christmas Carols

swirlPentatonix were (was?) on TV last night, and I don’t know where I’ve been all these years but that may be the first time I’ve heard them. I loved all the carols they performed but because “Joy to the World” is one of my all-time favorites I especially liked what they did with it.

The great thing about carols is that they work in solos or groups or choirs; they can be solemn and Kings-College-like, or rollicking, like some of the Pentatonix versions. They can be sacred or secular, full of imagery or full of feeling. Christmas hymns, carols and songs offer something for everyone.

If you need the words to your carols, and/or want to know a bit about your favorites, help yourself to my pdf file of carols. I published The Christmas Carol Handbook 30 years ago, when research was a lot more time-consuming than it is today. I meant to add more carols, especially more from other countries, during this past year, but somehow never got around to it. Maybe next year.

Merry Christmas!
